But before we could officially get married, the officials came and took me. After dating for what seem like forever, he proposed to me and I was more than ecstatic. I was slowly falling in love with the man of my dreams. They accepted me into the family and I could not be more than happy. They felt as though, just because they had money does not make it right to treat someone disrespectful. Even though I felt lower than them, they treated me with so much respect. I was more in the middle class opposed to his family having millions from their family business. When I met the his family, I felt completely out of place. My dad had passed away my sophomore year and ultimately the reason why I was working at the bar. I just only wished that my dad was able to meet him. My mom had taken an extreme liking to him as well. We had dated for 8 months and then we met each other’s families. You would have thought that I was being proposed to, but I had really taken an interest into him and I could not wait until he asked me. I was so excited about him asking that all I could was stutter over my words when he asked. We started to talk everyday ever since getting to know each other and wanting to know each othersĪfter speaking with each other for a month, he had asked me to be his girlfriend. I had finally found the courage to just up and speak to him one day, and after that the rest was history. I was just eyeing him seeing what was it about him that had this attracting aura, but I could not point it out. I had studied him after seeing him after seeing him that first time. He was extremely handsome and I could not imagine someone like that even stepping a foot in here. When he walked in, it was like my whole world stopped. I was in my third year of college and I had no way of paying of the debt that I was collecting from just attending college. When I first met him, it was in a bar that I was working at to earn a few dollars because of school. He was very persuasive with his words when I first met him and I have been in love ever since. I was married to one of the most successful entrepreneurs. But enough about them I want to give you a little back story on who I am and who I was before the society changed to what we call Gilead. I am starting to think that I am like the walking Grim Reaper. It seems to me that the each handmaid before me of the Commander seems to get dragged away by the black van or they commit the ultimate act of killing themselves. This is not the first time that this has happened and this probably would not be the last. I walked away from Offred after I told her that the former Ofglen committed suicide, I just knew that probably would be the last time I would see her. The word count remains the same, but feel free to write much more if your creative juices start flowing.
As usual, I am expecting you to write at least three complete paragraphs. Needless to say, this post requires that you read through page 295 and make a decision about what happens at the end of the book. I'd like you to be creative with this - you have final say in what becomes of the characters and the society. Write a final chapter to The Handmaid's Tale. You may choose to continue with Atwood's narrative style of telling the story through Offred's perspective, or you can write the story through someone else's eyes. Since I'm posting this early and I'm sure many of you have not read to the end of the book at this point, that's all I'll say on the topic for now. The Handmaid's Tale ends ambiguously it leaves us in the dark about the fate and future of our narrator, Offred.
